Red Rebel: This beautiful apple, which originated around 1850 in Rappahannock County, Va., nearly fell into extinction before being rediscovered in the 1980's. In a 1908 USDA report it notes: "The fine appearance and desert quality of the Rebel apple make it worthy of more testing. In the middle Piedmont, it grows well and is of value."
