Brest France Bretagne Brest This U-boat bunker is located in Brest. The bunker was 192 x 333m in size and the roof of the bunker was 6,2m thick. The bunker was constructed in the period January 1941 - July 1942 and had a capacity of 20 U-boats. The site cannot be visited and only be photographed from a distance.

The U-boat bunker at Brest was 333 metres wide, 192 metres long and roughly 17 metres high. The area covered was a record 52,000 square metres. The bunker was actually two structures, the first consisting of 13 pens, A to E and 1 to 8, the second of pens 9 and 10. The thickness of the roof was 3.6m in the first structure and 4.3 above pens 9.

During the war, Brest was attacked over 80 times by Allied bombers, but it would take until August 1944 before they succeeded in penetrating the roof of the pens when the bunker received 9 direct hits from big "Tallboy" bombs.

These U-boat bases were at Brest, Lorient, St Nazaire, La Pallice and Bordeaux. Construction of the Bordeaux bunker began in Autumn 1941 and was completed in Summer 1943. Overall dimensions were 245 meter long, 162 meter deep (front to rear) with a height of 19 meter. It had 11 pens, eight of which were dry docks.
